ABOUT.

Who am I?

Veterinarian. Writer. Backpacker. Speaker. Gryffindor.

Hi there! I’m Brittney, and I reside in the breathtaking, evergreen Pacific Northwest. I’m a Washington girl through and through from my coffee obsession to my love of the Great Outdoors.

I am passionate about backpacking and hiking. In August 2019, I began my foray into the world of thru hiking by completing the John Muir Trail. I aspire to someday earn a triple crown by hiking the Pacific Crest, Continental Divide and Appalachian Trails. In 2020, I will walk from Canada to Mexico along the 2650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, the first of three to achieve my triple crown. I spend much of my free time exploring the coastline beaches, evergreen forests, snowy summits and Cascade mountains of my Washington home.

I’m a small animal veterinarian with a passion for leadership, education, behavioral medicine and veterinary wellness. During my veterinary training at Washington State University, I attended the Veterinary Leadership Experience twice and was a local, regional and national leader of the Veterinary Business Management Association (VBMA). I continue my involvement to this day as a VBMA Alumni member and love connecting with veterinary students and colleagues as a friend and resource.

I enjoy speaking on veterinary wellness, behavioral medicine and business topics. If you are interested in booking a speaking engagement or hearing more about speaking topics I cover, reach out to me by email.

My passion and personal mission is to grow continually and inspire others. Each of us has so much potential buried within us, and sometimes all we need is somebody to believe in and empower us. I love being the wind beneath others’ wings as they reach boldly for their dreams.

One tiny Hobbit against all the evil the world could muster. A sane being would have given up, but Samwise burned with a magnificent madness, a glowing obsession to surmount every obstacle… He knew he would try again. Fail, perhaps. And try once more. A thousand, thousand times if need be, but he would not give up the quest.

I love cosplay and mixed-media crafting. I love Harry Potter trivia and letting my geek flag fly. I love tabletop and PC gaming.

I love challenging my body, staying active and inspiring others through my journey. I love stepping beyond my comfort zone into immense, awe-inspiring, infinite possibility.

I love growing as a doctor every day and building bonds with clients, coworkers and colleagues. I love surgery, dentistry and preventive care. I love planning and attending conferences. I love giving back to my profession in a meaningful way.

I love developing deep friendships with beautiful souls. I love my husband and my four-legged fur babies.

My Mission & Core Values.

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

I embrace my unique journey to inspire others through the unapologetic pursuit of my own limitless possibility.

The WHY behind the blog.

To tell the stories of my trail adventures.
To share the lessons the trail has taught me about myself and the world around me.
To offer resources and advice to others hoping to strap on their boots and hike.
To shed light on the experience of the veterinary professional.

To share openly about my own experiences with depression, anxiety and burnout to foster a community of shared experience, support and growth.
To be a voice within my profession for wellbeing, personal leadership and change.

My promise to you.

I will always keep it real with you. My writing will be honest and vulnerable, even when it isn’t easy, because growth happens through open dialogue.

I will cuss and think deeply and be my authentic self. I have traversed the wilderness of my call to adventure and chosen to write my own story rather than sitting in a tower waiting for someone else to write it for me. Being my own hero has taught me to slay my dragons and tell my daring tale with all of its gritty twists and glorious turns.

I will take you on this journey with me.

Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.
